Wellington College have won the College Sport Wellington Twenty20 title trouncing St. Patrick’s College, Silverstream in the final at the Basin Reserve today.
Silverstream batted first and made a steady start posting 58 for the first wicket, but the scoring rate was slow.
Navroz Singh tumbled for 18 in the 11th over as the Wellington spinners put the squeeze on and Silverstream eventually buckled. They lost wickets at regular intervals and staggered to 128/8 off 20 over’s.
Opener Jae Neshausen top scored with 39 off 40 balls. His innings included five boundaries. The best of the Wellington bowlers were Jakob Bhula who took 2-25 and Gareth Severin 2-4. Wellington’s feilding was sharp completing three run outs as Silverstream desperately sought to accelerate the scoring rate.
Severin would prove to be equally effective with the bat. He hammered 51 off 48 balls proving to be particularly authoritative to anything pinched on leg stump. Servin and Nick Greenwood shared 51 for the first wicket effectively extinguishing Silverstream’s ambitions.
Bhula made 28 and Louis Stevens hit the winning runs with five balls remaining.
Silverstream losses the title they won last year.
